Act 1: The Kayak & Snorkel
Your kayak awaits on the beach in Olowalu. You drive yourself there in the early morning (7:15 a.m.) while the ocean is still calm. Your kayak guide gives a quick kayaking lesson and then you paddle off along Maui’s rugged coastline for 2.5 hours. You snorkel by sliding off the kayak into a sea filled with colorful fish and large, green sea turtles. This area is particularly noted for its congregation of Hawaiian turtles.
Act 2: The Short Waterfalls Walk
Your hiking guide picks you up in our van and drives you from ocean to rain forest. In this popular valley along the Hana Highway you’ll hike the “Short Waterfalls Walk” -- a one-mile hike to two waterfalls, 10 and 20 feet high. It’s an easy hike, which tired kayakers generally need to shake off the morning’s salt and sun. Wash off the salt in a waterfall shower. Then, when you get your energy up, try jumping off rock ledges and swing from a rope swing like Tarzan.
