This is where you find the big waterfalls -- 200 and 400 feet high. They are located in Maui’s national park in the very Hawaiian area of Kipahulu (a half hour from Hana). You hike 4.5-miles (round trip) along well-maintained park trails following Maui’s most beautiful stream -- a network of pools and falls. It’s hard to say which is the most heart stopping: the 200-foot waterfall, the 400-foot falls or the isolated 45-footer. Or, it could be the break in the greenery where the rain forest becomes a giant forest of bamboo. There is nothing like a dark hike through solid bamboo. Like all national parks, this is spectacular land. The day is long, but it’s a great day, probably the best day of your vacation.
